Privacy & data

Book Driving Test.UK is a static website. We don’t run analytics or advertising trackers, we don’t set third-party marketing cookies, and we don’t sell or profile you. But some features can only work by talking to outside services — this page is an honest account of exactly what leaves your device and when.
What we store on your device
- Essential local storage — your cookie-notice choice (
cookie_choice) and, if you turn on alerts, the list of centres you’ve subscribed to (alert_centres). This stays in your browser, read only by this site’s own scripts; it is never sent to our servers. - No tracking or advertising cookies. No Google Analytics, no ad pixels, no cross-site trackers.
Third-party services we call (and what’s sent)
| Service | When | What’s sent |
|---|---|---|
| Postcodes.io | Only when you use the “best centre near me” tool | The postcode you type, to turn it into a location. Not stored by us. |
| Our alerts backend (AWS, us-east-1) | Only if you turn on free slot alerts | A browser push subscription (an anonymous token from your browser) + the centre(s) you chose, so we can notify you. No name or email required. |
| OpenStreetMap | On pages with a map | Standard map-tile requests (your IP, as with any image). Route lines are drawn locally in your browser. |
| Google Fonts | Every page | A font-file request (your IP + browser), to load the Archivo typeface. |
| YouTube (privacy-enhanced) | When a page with a video embed loads | We use youtube-nocookie.com, which avoids setting tracking cookies unless you play the video. Loading the embed itself makes a request to YouTube (your IP). |
Free slot alerts — your subscription
If you turn on alerts, your browser creates a push subscription (an anonymous endpoint token). We store it with your chosen centre(s) so we can send a notification when a cancellation appears. It contains no name, email or licence details.
Booking & licence details
We never ask for your GOV.UK password, and you always book on the official GOV.UK service. If you use our WhatsApp “book for me” service, any details you share there are handled by WhatsApp and only used to book your test.
